A Little Bit About Me

My name is Tobi Michael Adeyeye, better known by the stage name Toby Shang. Some people refer to me as “Shangstar,” while others refer to me as “Zaddy of Hype.” However, I must admit that I have a bias toward those who refer to me as “The Best” because that is who I am.

I am an event host and hypeman. In fact, I am considered as one of the most influential evangelists and pioneers of Afro-Hype, a Nigerian genre for music produced by hypemen, making me a consummate showman and all-around entertainer.

I was born and raised in the Ijesha axis of Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria, and if you must know, I fell in love with music at a young age and was inspired by my musical influences such as Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, Asa, 2 Baba, Fela, and a host of others, so I became a member of the now-defunct Surulere-based boy band “BT SQUAD”.

While pursuing my studies in history and strategic studies at the prestigious University of Lagos, I came across “Hype” and fell in love with “ Hype “. Since then, I have developed and evolved my style and sound to the point where it has become my specialty, becoming a successful hypeman and a phenomenal performer.

A few years later, I combined my two passions to create a sound that would go on to catapult me into the spotlight, carry me around the globe, and dominate stages and venues. I combined music (Afrobeat/Afrofusion) with the upbeat, energizing, and stimulating tone known as hype to create “Afro-Hype,” which is quickly emerging as a noteworthy sub-genre of the most popular musical export from Africa. I’ve had the chance to work and cooperate with a few newer Afrobeats acts thanks to the same sound, like Naira Marley, Crayon, Laycon, Mr. Real, Sunkkeysnoop, Kriz Beats, and Ajebutter 22.
